DON’T MAKE THESE 5 PLUS SIZE STYLE MISTAKES

Top Mistakes in Plus Size Styling

In my journey through the world of fashion, I’ve come to understand the unique challenges and opportunities that come with plus size styling. As I’ve explored this realm, I’ve identified several common mistakes that can hinder the potential of plus size fashion. By avoiding these missteps, I believe anyone can enhance their style and embrace their body with confidence.

Avoiding Bold Patterns

There are many unintentional errors made in plus size styling, but one of the most common errors is judging bold patterns. Many people stay away from bold patterns because they believe these patterns overpower plus size figures, but I have found that the right bold patterns (when selected wisely) can enhance a plus size figure rather than hide it. – Also no one wants to wear too busy busy designs because of visual clutter. I am very much in favor of wearing solid colors. Solid colors can lay a strong foundation for an outfit. Solid colors can give a vision of a clean and structured silhouette, and a foundation for layering and accessorizing. By wearing stylish and well fitting solid pieces I know I could wear chic and sophisticated pieces that flatter my shape and make me look and feel professional.

Wearing the Wrong Size Undergarments

Another common mistake I see frequently is wearing the wrong size undergarments. I’m still shocked at how much a pair of underwear or a bad fitting bra can ruin the complete plus size outfit. I know when I wear the wrong size, not only am I uncomfortable, but it adds on the usual plus size style mistakes, the bulges or lack of support. I’ve realized that the cost of great fitting undergarments is worth it, it literally changes the fit of the clothing, and the way I feel to wear them. Properly fitted bras and shapewear can enhance my natural curves and provide the support I need, and then my outfit looks complete and polished. Making sure I have the right size undergarments has changed everything, and allows my clothing to ‘fall’ correctly and improved my overall look.

Neglecting Vertical Lines

One item in my closet styling that I’ve learned to pay special attention to is the use of vertical lines. By neglecting vertical lines in plus size fashion, I can limit the elongation of my overall silhouette, even making me appear shorter, or bulkier. I’ve noticed that by incorporating vertical lines in any shape – seams, stripes, tailored looks – I’ve been able to enhance my overall body shape, and define a more flattering silhouette. Vertical lines lead the eye up and down, create an image of height and slim. This can be very beneficial to me. Focusing on pieces that have these vertical aspects, I’ve been able to enhance my body shape to find opportunities to create a stylish, and create an empowering form.

Forgetting to Accessorize

In the world of plus size clothing, accessories are often neglected. However, I have found that not thinking about them can lessen the impact of an outfit completely. Accessories can take a very plain outfit and transform it completely because they are also the place you can add a personal touch or flair. I now know that a statement necklace, a pair of bold earrings, or colorful belt can really bring together an outfit and showcase some of the features I like best. Accessories can also break up solid colors and provide interest, thereby giving the outfit dimension. I have also found that taking the time to consider my accessories can influence my expression of personality and style (as well as avoid the too common style dilemmas created by overlooking the smallest detail).

Limiting their Footwear Options

Lastly, one of the most limiting mistakes I made is limiting my footwear options. Time and time again I have opted for comfort over style and in turn made poor choices in plus size styling. While limiting myself to only a few pairs of shoes may seem harmless, it limits my versatility in outfits, it totally sucks my confidence level. I have realized that there are a vast selection of stylish and comfortable footwear that work beautifully with plus size fashion. By trying all sorts of footwear styles, from chic flats to trendy heels, I add to my outfits while being comfortable all day. By using various types of footwear I have allowed myself to express my style more freely, and confidently, and I feel my outfits are more complete overall.

In conclusion, by being aware of these common mistakes in plus size styling I was able to start narrowing down my fashion choices and be more comfortable in my body. Using good patterns in the appropriately fitting undergarments, wearing vertical lines, accessorizing the right way, or open up my footwear selections – These choices can make a difference. Fashion is about appreciating who we are, and by avoiding these common mistakes, I felt more empowered to showcase my individuality through my clothing.
